In a hearing before U.S. District Judge Margaret M. Garnett, Mangione to two counts related to his assassination of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thomson on December 4, 2024 in New York City:
Interstate stalking resulting in death — based on Mangione traveling across state lines to stalk Thompson with the intent to kill him.
Stalking via interstate facilities resulting in death — based on his use of electronic communications/Internet and other interstate facilities in carrying out the stalking.
He did not plead guilty to murder or firearms charges which were dismissed by Judge Garnett in January of this year.
